CONVICTIONS OF THE TELOS DESTINATION METHOD
The following are the bedrock assertions used by TDM Coaches as taught by Dr. Robert Dee McDonald.
Spirtual
- People are beings, not actions, nor things nor systems of things – “I am I, not my body, my emotions, nor my mind.”
- People are Innocent, incomparably good – “I am Innocent, incomparably good.”
- When people are convinced that Innocence is Infinite, they awaken in fearlessness and virtue – “When I am convinced that Innocence is Infinite, I awaken in fearlessness and virtue.”
- People do not have inner enemies – “I have no inner enemies. I only have inner friends.”
- People contain a body-mind reciprocal system – “I contain a body-mind reciprocal system.”
- People are loved by their body-mind system – “Every part of my body-mind reciprocal system is in love with me.”
- People create the world by thinking the Infinite into maps and maps into territories – “I create the world by thinking the Infinite into maps and maps into territories.”
- The Soul is people: an intelligible sphere whose circumference is nowhere and whose center is in their bodies – “I am the Soul: an intelligible sphere whose circumference is nowhere and whose center is in my body.”
- The Infinite is people: an intelligible sphere whose circumference is nowhere and whose center is everywhere – “I am the Infinite: an intelligible sphere whose circumference is nowhere and whose center is everywhere.”
Mental
- People’s minds are like map makes of experience – “My mind makes representations of my experiences.”
- People’s mental maps are made of pictures, sounds, feelings, smells and tastes – “My representations are made of inner pictures, sounds, feelings, smells and tastes.”
- The mental maps that people make are not the territory – “My mental map is not the territory it represents.”
- When people create a mental map of a mental map, the first mental map becomes the territory – “When I create a mental map of a mental map, the first mental map becomes the territory.”
- People respond to their maps of the territory, not to the territory – “I respond to my mental maps of the territory, not to the territory.”
- If people change their mental maps, they’ll change their emotional state – “If I change my mental maps, I’ll change my emotional states.”
- People are unaware of some of their mental maps – “I am unware of some of my mental maps.”
- People’s minds always sit in judgement of their mental maps – “My mind always judges its maps.”
- People’s minds invariably seek and create meaning – “My mind invariable seeks and creates meaning.”
Intentional
- People always have positive intentions, regardless of their behaviors – “I always intend to produce something good, regardless of my physical and mental behavior.”
- People construe another’s actions and act accordingly, regardless of the other’s positive intention – “Regardless of their positive intentions, I respond to others by how I construe their behavior.”
Practical
- People work perfectly to get the results they’re getting – “I work perfectly to get the results I’m getting.”
- People never fail, they only get feedback – “I never fail; I just get feedback.”
- Anything people do is useful in some context – “Every one of my behaviors is useful in some context.”
- People always make the best choices available to them – “I always make the best choices available to me, given the information I have.”
- It is better for people to have choice than to have no choice – “I am better off having choice than having no choice.”
Potential
- People are more resourceful when imagining they can do anything – “I become more resourceful when I imagine that I can do anything.”
- People already have all the resources they need – “I already have all the resources I need to reach my destination.”
- People make positive changes by using their resources to add, not eliminate, even more resources – “I make positive changes in myself by using my resources to add to my resources.”
- The most resourceful people in any system can most influence that system – “The more resources I have, the more I can influence the system in which I live.”
Developmental
- People evolve Ontologically, Epistemologically, and Axiologically – “I evolve in Being, Awareness, and Virtue.”
